All College of Engineering students are assigned an academic advisor with complementary areas of expertise to help on the journey toward graduation. Advising is mandatory for every student, every semester – as outlined in the course catalog. Advising is based on a 2+2 model which typically means:
Years 1 & 2
Students are assigned to a professional staff advisor to assist students in their transition to college, aid students in navigating the University, and collaborate in course selection and academic planning.
Years 3 & 4
Students transition to a faculty advisor with a focus on assisting students in their course selection, counsel them in meeting their educational and career goals, and provide discipline-specific mentorship.
Advisors in the College of Engineering support students in a variety of ways.
Group Advising
For required group advising sessions, the College of Engineering's professional academic advisors use NEXUS. You can check your UConn email for communications from your advisors regarding the best way to contact them.
The Undergraduate Advising Office offers group advising sessions for all first-year, second-year, and transfer students in the College of Engineering. These sessions fulfill the College's mandatory advising requirement. All students must attend a live or virtual group advising session in its entirety before requesting a one-on-one appointment with their advisor.
Appointments
For required advising appointments, the College of Engineering's professional academic advisors use NEXUS. You can check your UConn email for communications from your advisors regarding the best way to contact them.
If you want to schedule an appointment outside of required advising, emailing your advisor is the best way to set up an appointment. If it is during peak registration times, please know that your advisor may not have availability outside of your required advising appointment and may recommend you use drop-in hours instead.
Drop-in Advising Hours
Drop-in advising hours are often the easiest and quickest way to see an advisor if you are looking for an appointment in addition to your required advising. Drop-in advising hours are held in-person or virtually and intended for any student who needs on-demand support, has questions about registration, or needs guidance on University resources. The schedule may change from semester to semester. Visit our drop-in advising page for current times and the link to check in.
